This
nascent hill state is situated on the foothills of Shivaliks and is actively
being promoted for tourism by the state government. The state is already a
hub for adventure sports lovers and is also home to many important Hindu
pilgrimages. The state has immense potential to become a tourism hub as it
has it all, be it nature, wildlife, adventure or pilgrimages. Uttaranchal
was formerly a part of Uttar Pradesh and is one of the most entrancing
regions of northern India. The land of Uttaranchal has natural beauty and
bliss bestowed upon it and that's why it is also known as Dev Bhoomi (the
land of Gods). Most of the prominent rivers of India originate from here
among which Ganga is known as the most sacred of all. Uttaranchal state is
the ideal abode of snow with the Kumaon region in the east as well as
Garhwal in the west.
Almora is the cultural capital of Kumaon region of Uttaranchal. The other
two districts in the Kumaon region are Nainital and Pithoragarh. The natural
brilliance is so undisturbed that the place has a divine feel about it.
There are four hill ranges around it. These are - Banari Devi, Shayahi Devi,
Kasar Devi and Katarnal. The first three have temples of Goddesses on the
peaks whereas the fourth one has a Sun temple. Almora also has a museum that
speaks volumes about the culture of Kumaon. The city also has a deer park on
the periphery of it.
