water rating. It is one such sports that enables you to explore the least

mesmerizing marine life. Rafting in India is undoubtedly an experience that

cruising down the gushing river and kayaking over the roaring waves, and is
one of the best way to conquer your fear of water. Some of the popular rivers such as Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, Indus, Zanskar and Teesta have been run for decades by professional white water rafting tour agencies. This sport is generally restricted to the northern rivers which flow southwards from the Himalayas, lushing between semi evergreen forested mountains and through steep gorges. There are tour agencies and government tour offices that arrange white water rafting equipments for the tourists. The equipments include lifejackets, helmets, an expert guide, food and accommodation. Things to Remember Rating is serious game, so its good to be prepared in advance. The rafters are advised to follow the instructions properly. As his guidance and cooperation are imperative for such life threatening adventure sports. Person suffering from major heart condition or epilepsy and the expectant mothers are not permitted. Otherwise your life is in your hands. Things to Carry If you are going for the rafting trip make sure you wear light (nilon) clothes along with the comfortable shoes. You will required to carry a good sunscreen, dark glasses, shorts, T-shirts (or other light, quick-dry clothing) and suitable shoes- sneakers, and that would be enough. Do-not forget to take camera, window proof jacket and flashlight along with yourself. Permits White water rafting in some parts of the country requires special permits from the government. Specially the areas close to the border lines such as Nubra, Sikkim, Lahaul, and Spiti (foreigners may require permit for these areas). Permits can usually be obtained fairly easily from District Commissioners, District Magistrates or other senior officials. Enquire at the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi to figure out whether you need a permit, and who can provide it to you.
