Chhattisgarh Travel

Chhattisgarh - The Forest Land is a young state carved out of Madhya Pradesh on 1 November, 2000. Worldwide known for its abundant wealth of mineral and natural resources, Chhattisgarh India is renowned for a place Bela-Dila, which is rich in iron ores. Covered extensively by dense forests, Chhattisgarh is inhabited by Marias, Murias and other tribes. The state has a high tourist potential in adventure tourism, water sports and pilgrimage due to the forests, waterfalls, temples and wide range of flora and fauna found in Chhattisgarh. The well-known landmarks in Chhattisgarh India are the gold mines and aluminium plant in Korba; Bhilai Steel Plant; Bela Dila iron ore reserves; the capital city Raipur, Bilaspur, Bastar, Chitrakut and other places.

Bastar - The Tribal City

Location: Bastar is a tribal territory richly endowed with minerals and forest resources. Bastar is, predominantly, a forest area, and home of Marias and Murias, both extremely colorful and picturesque tribes, who have preserved their ancient culture.

Tourist Destinations: The tourist spots at Bastar include Jagdalpur where the colorful festival of Dussehra is celebrated on a grand scale every year; the 96 ft high Chitrakut Falls made by the Indravati river; the 100 ft high Tirathgarh Falls, Kutumsar Caves (The five chambers in the cave have several blind wells, all except one covered with a sheet of rock that, when struck, gives a hollow sound); Danteshwari Temple at Dantewada. At Barsur, an old Shiva temple has 12 pillars. In addition, there is a Ganesha Temple and Mama Bhanja ka Mandir as well.

Chitrakut - The Pilgrim Centre

Location: Chitrakut is one of the most sacred pilgrim centres of north India. It covers a vast area comprising five villages: Sitapur, Karvi, Nayagaon, Kamta, and Khohi. The city is surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Vindhya. Mixed forests are spread in all directions.

Tourist Destinations: Most of the tourist spots are along the river Mandakini. Janaki Kund is a straight stretch of river and a series of steps on the left bank descended to the water, almost greenish-blue in color. Ram Ghat is a long stretch of steps cut into the banks where pilgrims perform religious ablutions and rituals. Many compare its hallowed sanctity to Rishikesh and Benaras. At Sphatik Shila, a large boulder has impressions of Lord Rama's footprints. In addition, there are Deva Ganga, Sati Anusuya, and Hanuman Dhara.
