Qutub Minar
It is a wonderful monument of Delhi towering to a height of 72.5 m. Also known as the victory tower, it is one of the finest monuments in India. It was built in 1199 AD by Qutubuddin Aibak. It is the largest brick minaret in the world. It is recognized as a World Heritage Site. It has five stories, the first three made of red sandstone and the remaining two are of marble and sandstone. This enchanting monument is surrounded by several ancient and medieval structures and ruins, each having its own significance and beauty. The Minar is adorned with beautiful carvings and verses from the Quran. The complex also houses a 7 m high iron pillar and the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the first mosque of India.
It is an important and huge monument of Delhi which was built in the 17th century by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan. Built on the embankment of river Yamuna, the fort serves as the venue for the Prime Minister’s speech which is given on Independence Day of India. Humayun’s Tomb
Dedicated to Humayun, the second Mughal emperor of India, this tomb is recognized as the World Heritage Site. Built in 1569, this tomb is amazing in terms of architecture. Jantar Mantar
It is a wonderful astronomical observatory once used for the calculation of several astronomical events. It is one of the five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in 1710. The other four are at Varanasi, Jaipur, Ujjain and Mathura. It is a masterpiece of Indian architecture and a great example of the scientific knowledge of ancient India. The fixed instruments here were built in stone.
Old Fort
This fort is steeped in sheer historical importance.
It served as a seat for administration for several emperors in the past. Now in runs, this fort was built in 1538 by the Mughal emperor Humayun. This fort was built on the site called Indraprasta, the capital of the famed warriors of the Mahabharata, the Pandavas.
Safdarjung Tomb
This tomb was built by the Nawab of Awadh in honor of his father. It reflects one of the finest examples of the architecture of that period. It is located near the Safdarjung airport.
