History

High on luxury and comfort, Deccan Odyssey was a captivating initiative of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). MTDC joined hands with the renowned Taj Group of Hotels and created the opulent Deccan Odyssey. Well equipped with modern comfort and amenities, the train offers a fascinating experience.

The Railway Ministry signed a MOU for Deccan Odyssey with MTDC in February 2001 and it received a green signal by the ICF (Integral Coach Factory) in May 2002. The design of the coaches was finalized in five months and another five months went in completing the construction of the coaches. Finally the train started its first journey on January 16th, 2004 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus(CST)Mumbai.

Schedule

The imposing Deccan Odyssey begins its journey on every Wednesday of the week from CST Terminus Station in Mumbai. The train remains operative from October  to April every year. A great deal of renovation and maintenance work is done during  rest of the months to maintain the high-standard of the train.

Facilities

The opulent Deccan Odyssey encompasses 21 coaches, out of which 13 are for passengers. All the coaches are named after the historical monuments and various sites of Maharashtra.

Accommodation

Passengers can choose from the fully air-conditioned deluxe saloons(each saloon offers 4 cabins) inside the train. There are 4 Luxury Suite Cabins,24 Twin Bedded Deluxe Cabins,5 Double Bedded Cabins,14 Triple Bedded Cabins,1 Cabin For Physically Challenged. There Are Two-power Generator Cars On Either End Of The Train & Three Staff Cars For On board Staff. All the saloons are well fitted with best of facilities such as attached toilets, running hot and cold water, shower, wall to wall carpeting, channel music, intercom, CD/MP3 player etc.

Restaurants

Adorned tastefully and lavishly, the two restaurants namely Peshwa I and Peshwa II serve a variety of mouth-watering cuisine- Indian, Continental, Maharashtrian, Goa and Chinese.

Bar

Passengers can sample a variety of drinks, both Indian and international, in the well stocked bar of the train. It is aptly named as 'Mumbai High'.

Conference Facilities

With an accommodating capacity of 30 people, the conference-cum- business centre provides facilities like television sets, DVD players and Computers with Internet connectivity.

Lounge

Each coach has a beautifully maintained lounge attached to it where passengers can relax and interact with each other.

Shopping

A variety of fabulous handicrafts such as paintings, furniture, metal ware, jewellery and fabrics can be bought from various destinations while on the Journey.
