This beautiful lake is famous for its embankments which are adorned with carved arches and cenotaphs. The southern part of this lake is most popular one because of the presence of five toranas or weighing arches. These arches were used by Maharajas of the royal families to weigh themselves in gold, silver and other precious metals. Equal to their weight they gave the weighed metals to the brahmanis. This process of alms giving was followed by Maharana Raj Singh and his descendants. This event was known as Tuladan which was held annually. In ancient time during this celebration a large fair used to be organised in which intellectuals, priests, saints and folk artists would come and participate.

The embankment of this lake has nine pavilions or nauchowki which were built by Maharana Raj Singh. These nine pavilions are renowned for intricate carvings and delicate design. The architectural beauty of these pavilions enthrals tourists during their visit to this place. The other most stunning feature of this place is raj prasasti. It is 1017 stanza inscriptions on twenty seven marble slabs which depicts the history of Mewar. It is acclaimed as one of the longest etchings in India.
