About Malana Village: Malana is a small tribal community with a unique culture and its own democratic government, considered the oldest democracy in the world. Legend has it that soldiers left behind by Alexander the Great intermarried here, forming the Malana society. The village has its own laws and historically remained detached from outside influence. The trek passes through beautiful alpine pastures and offers stunning views of high mountain peaks, crossing the Chanderkhani Pass to reach Malana from Naggar.
Day 01 Manali - Naggar - Rumshu - Rumshu Thatch (2600 M)
After breakfast, drive to Naggar (1 hour). Begin trek from Naggar. After an hour of steep ascent, reach Rumshu village, a traditional pahari (mountain) village with wooden houses and local architecture. Spend time exploring Rumshu and then trek further to Rumshu Thatch, camping in a beautiful alpine meadow with views of the Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal, and Lahul ranges.
Day 02 Rumshu Thatch to Base of Chanderkhani Pass (3450M - 4 hours walk)
Trek through coniferous forests and meadows carpeted with alpine flowers. Enjoy superb valley and mountain views along the way. Camp at the base of Chanderkhani Pass.
Day 03 Base - Chanderkhani Pass (3660M) - Nagruni Thatch
Climb to the top of Chanderkhani Pass (approx. 2 hours). The climb may be tougher in mid-May or early June due to snow. The pass is marked by prayer flags and cairns. After the pass, continue a leveled walk for 2-3 hours to Nagruni Thatch, a beautiful alpine meadow, and camp overnight.
Day 04 Nagruni Thatch – Malana Village - Road-head - Kasol
Downhill trek for about 3 hours through green meadows to reach Malana village. Explore the village and then walk to the nearest road-head. Drive to Kasol or Kullu. End of the trek.
Important Notes:
Trekking luggage must be carried in provided waterproof duffel bags (max 8 kg including sleeping bag and mattress). Duffel bags will be carried by ponies and will not be accessible during the day. Keep rain jacket, light warm jacket, water bottle, camera, and valuables in your day sack.
