Malana Village: is a small tribal community of tribal people, who has a unique culture and their own democratic government. Malana village government is considered the oldest democracy in the world. It is believed that the Greeks under the leadership of Alexendera the great came all the way to Malana village, where few soldiers who were left behind from his army, intermarried here and developed a society that came to be known as Manala village Society , which is known to be the oldest democracy of the world.  The village has its own law and they do not have any respect for the outside authority. Earlier most of the villagers wanted to stay detached from rest of the world but slowly due to the tourism it is changing and people have started getting mixed up with the outside world. To reach Malana village from Naggar we have to cross over Chanderkhani Pass. The trek passes through beautiful alpine pasture and we have beautiful view of some of the high mountain peaks

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01On Trek: Manali-Naggar - Rumshu - Rumshu Thatch (2600 M)

After breakfast we drive to Naggar (1 hour drive) and start walking from Naggar. After an hour of steep ascent we reach Rumshu village, an excellent example of traditional pahari (mountain) village with its wooden houses and traditional architectural style. Spend some time visiting the village and then trek further upto Rumshu Thach and camp in the middle of the alpine meadow. Beautiful views of Dhauladhar mt range to the west, Pir Panjal range to the North-West and Lahul range to the north.

Day 02Rumshu Thatch to Base of Chanderkhani Pass (3450M - 4 hours walk)

We walk through coniferous forest and meadows carpeted with variety of alpine flowers. Superb views of the valley and mountain ranges all around. Camp at the base of Chanderkhani Pass

Day 03Base - Chanderkhani Pass (3660M) - Nagruni Thatch

It takes around two hours to get to the top of the pass. The climb is harder at the margins of the season, in mid-May and early June when the pass and upper meadows are under snow cover. The pass is marked by prayer flags and cairns. From the pass it is levelled walk for another 2-3 hours to Nagruni Thach, a beautiful alpine meadow where we camp for night stay.

Day 04Nagruni Thatch –Malana Village-Road-head-Kasol

Downhill walk for 3 hours through green meadows takes you to Malana village. After walking through Malana village you walk down to the nearest road-head at Malana village. Drive to Kasol or Kullu. End of the trek.

Important Notes:
For carrying your trekking luggage we provide waterproof duffel bags. You will have to fit all your trekking luggage in duffel bags. The weight of your duffel bags should not exceed 8 kilos including your sleeping bag and matteress. The duffel bag will go on the ponies and you will not have access to your duffel bag during the day and you will get it only once you arrive to the camp. You should keep your rain jacket, one light warm jacket, water bottle, camera and valuables in your day sack that you carry with you.
