If you don't have your own equipment, not to worry. There are tour agencies and government tour offices that arrange white water rafting equipments for the tourists. The equipments include lifejackets, helmets, an expert guide, food and accommodation.
Things to Remember
Rafting is a serious game, so it is good to be prepared in advance. The rafters are advised to follow the instructions properly as trainer's guidance. A mutual co-operation is imperative for such life threatening adventure sports. Person suffering from major heart condition or epilepsy and expectant mothers are not permitted.
Things to Carry
If you are going for a rafting trip make sure you wear light (nilon) clothes along with comfortable shoes. You will be required to carry a good sunscreen, dark glasses, shorts, T-shirts (or other light, quick-dry clothing) and suitable shoes- sneakers, and that would be enough. Do-not forget to pack your camera, wind proof jacket and flashlight.
Permits
White water rafting, in some parts of the country, require special permits from the government. Specially the areas close to the border lines such as Nubra, Sikkim, Lahaul, and Spiti (foreigners may require permit for these areas).
Permits can usually be obtained fairly easily from District Commissioners, District Magistrates or other senior officials. Enquire at the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi to figure out whether you need a permit, and who can provide it to you.
