At a distance of 4 km from Manali is the enchanting Arjuna Gufa. As per legend, this is the place where Arjuna, the great archer of epic Mahabharata once meditated.

Manali is famous for woolen shawls. The bazaars here also offer hand-woven goods, Kullu topis or caps, various Tibetan handicrafts, amulets, dorjes (thunderbolts), masks, musical instruments and thangkas.

Best Time to Visit

Manali being a year-round destination can be visited any time of the year. March to June is the time when people flock here to escape the hot and humid climate. Also, those who wish to spend some time playing with pearly white snow, the months from September to February are perfect.

By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar airport( 10 km from Manali), which is connected to cities like Delhi, Shimla and Chandigarh by regular flights.

By Rail: Nearest rail heads are Chandigarh and Pathankot.

By Road: Manali is well connected by road with Delhi (789 km), Ambala (606 km), Chandigarh (556 km), Dehradun, Haridwar, Shimla, Dharamsala, Chamba/Dalhousie, Ropar, Bilaspur and Mandi.
