Nagarhole National Park

Introduction

Nagarhole National Park is located in Kodagu district and Mysore district. Popularly known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, it is a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The park is one of the sites that got listed under the Project Tiger in the year 1999. The park has marked its existence with its healthy tiger-predator ratio.

Commonly found wild beasts in the park include tiger, leopard, rusty spotted cat, chital, gaur, sloth bear, sambhar, panther and many more. If you wish to spot some mammals, you can find muntjac, pangolin, macaques, giant squirrel, wild boar, tiny mouse deer and langurs. Reptiles in the park are also notable. Tourists can take a look into the life of wild reptiles. Snakes are the most common and can be spotted easily.

The park is also a preferred place for bird-watchers. Vivid bird life of the park consists of around 250 species of birds. Malabar pied hornbill, Malabar trogan, great black woodpecker and green imperial pigeon are the few names that can be spotted easily in Nagarhole National Park.

Located at a distance of around 96 km from Mysore and 90 km from Madikere, Nagarhole National park is well connected to all the nearby cities through a wide network of roads. Nearest rail junction is in Mysore that connects the park with the rest of the country. For international tourists, Bangalore has an international airport. Regular to and from flights are available from prime locations across the globe. For further connectivity, tourists can hire private vehicle or can use state transport.

Tourists can enjoy Jeep safari and boat rides. Jeep safari is available for a short region.
