Introduction

Patna is a beautiful city that enjoys richness in history and culture. Located on the banks of the Ganga river, Patna is the capital of Bihar. This destination is one of the oldest inhabited regions in the world. History of Patna is around 3,000 years old. Ancient monuments in the region allure tourists from far-flung regions. History

Earlier known as Pataliputra, Patna was ruled by many kings. Different names of the destination are the evidences that every ruler had tried to redefine the city in a different way. Patna has been home to many astrologists and scholars, which include Vatsyayana, Chanakya, Ashvaghosha, Panini Sthalabhadra and Aryabhatta.


Attractions


Golghar

Built by Captain John Garstin, Golghar is a popular attraction in Patna. This architecture of 1786 allures tourists from all over the world. Golghar was built for British army in 1786. The massive structure offers an excellent view of Patna as well as the Ganga flowing by. Golghar is around 29 m high and the walls of the architecture are approximately 3.6 m wide at the base.


Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib

Gurdwara at Patna Sahib was established in remembrance of the birth place of the tenth guru of the Sikhs. Built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the first Maharajah of Sikh realm, the Gurudwara is on the banks of Ganga river. This Gurudwara is one of only five Takhats(Holy Seats). Guru Gobind singh spent a long time here.


Patna Museum

This is one of the grandest museums in the country. Set up in 1917, the museum is dedicated to offer a scientific vision to evolution of history. The museum houses the historical artefacts that were found in the nearby areas. Locally known as Jadu Ghar, Patna museum is a blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. Display items include archaeological objects, rare collection of paintings of British-period, coins, art objects and textiles.


Other Attractions

Kumrahar Excavations, Qila House, Khuda Baksh Oriental Library, Mahaveer Mandir, Sher Shahi and Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park are other attractions of Patna. All these are worth visiting places.

By Road: Apart from the government transport, tourists can use the services of private bus operators. From all the nearby locations tourists can reach Patna comfortably.
