Brij Festival, Bharatpur

Bharatpur is one of the most historically rich cities in Rajasthan which was founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733. The city is known for numerous fairs and festivals which are celebrated here with great fervor. One of them is the Brij Festival, portraying the vibrant cultures and traditions of Rajasthan.

Brij Festival of Bharatpur is usually celebrated during the month of March, few days before Holi, the festival of colors. This grand festival is dedicated to Lord Krishna. During the festival, locals indulge in various cultural programs which bring out their deeply rooted religious sentiments. Both men and women dress in vibrant local attires and sing religious songs to please the deity. Raslila Dance remains a key attraction during the festival which showcases some beautiful love tales about Lord Krishna, Radha and their associates. Travelers from all over the world visit Bharatpur to witness the festivities of this beautiful festival which takes you deep into the cultures of Rajasthan. Many professional artists can be seen playing folk music and performing Rajasthani dance forms. This is also a time to taste delectable Rajasthani food, partake in local games, buy some authentic locally made handicrafts and mingle with happy locals.

By Air: Bharatpur has no airport and the nearest domestic airport is in Agra located at a distance of 56 km away. Also, the nearest international airport is in Delhi.
