Introduction

If you move to the south of Cochin, you will find a secluded village called Mararikulam. This sleepy village is serene and hidden from rest of the state. This quiet fishing village, is a perfect place to spend a quality time with yourself and the mother nature. Marari beach got its name from  Mararikulam. Located at a distance of just few km from Alleppey, the beach allures the peace seekers. The beach allows you to be lazy for any reason. Being one of the cleanest beaches of the state, Marari is amazingly beautiful.


Beach Activities

Tourists can indulge in different activities at Marari beach. These include cruises on the backwaters, and visiting to traditional coir-making units. Tourists can also enjoy swimming, sun basking or can just behave lazy on the beach.


Attractions


Mararikulam Village

This is a small sleepy village, hidden from the towns and cities. The village is secluded and hidden. Age-old traditions and rituals of the village are still carrying their purest form. Villagers make the region more beautiful with their warm hospitality and the innocence. From their behaviour, it clearly reflects that modernization has not touched the region till date.


Temples

Shiva Temple in the region is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Apart from the religious reasons, the temple is noted for its amazing architecture. Ancient Cherthala Karthiyayini Temple is also popular amongst tourists as well as the locals. The presiding deity of the temple is Devi Karthiyayini. Tourists visiting Marari ensure their visit to these temples to take the blessings of  deities.


Excursions

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for bird watchers. A wide range of avian fauna can be seen in the sanctuary. Alleppey backwaters are also popular there. Scenic beauty, lush green areas and a backwater cruise create a fairy tale view that can spell bind anyone. Visiting the region in the month of August can treat you with the famous snake boat race.

How To Reach

By Air: Cochin airport is the nearest one, which is located around 60 km from Marari.

By Train: Marari can be easily reached from Cochin railway station. It is just 5 km from Cochin railway station.

By Road: From Alappuzha (Alleppey) to Marari beach, the distance can be covered in just 20 to 30 minutes.
