Red Hill in Manipur


Red Hill is a popular name in the list of tourist attractions of Manipur. It is a Peace Monument related to World War II. This hillock holds sheer historic importance. The site has also witnessed a disastrous battle between the British and the Japanese army during the Second World War. Local people pay their homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives. Tourists visiting Manipur come here to remember the martyrs for sacrificing their lives.

Historical Importance

Red Hill is a hillock that holds great historic importance. Being the place where a fierce battle was fought, it witnessed the sacrifices of many Martyrs. For that reason, it is considered as a sacred spot by the people of Manipur.


The Red Hill is situated on Tiddim Road, around 16 km from Imphal. This hillock houses a monument, which was raised in the memory of the Japanese Martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the war.

If you travel Manipur for Red Hill, then after visiting it, you can go ahead for Bishnupur. It is situated on Tiddim road. This beautiful town encompasses spectacular hills and beautiful valleys. The place is also known for Vishnu temple that dates back to the 15th century. The chiselled stoneware of Bishnupur fascinates the tourists.

Located near Red Hill, Khwairamband is a market where you can also visit. This popular tourist destination is divided into two sections. One is dotted with the stalls of fruits, vegetables, fish and groceries and other one has the shops of handlooms, jewellery and handicrafts.
