Introduction

Situated at a height of over 8500 feet in the North East, Bomdila Arunachal Pradesh is a mini paradise for tourists. The Nature Around

Being the headquarters of the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, Bomdila offers a spectacular view of Himalayan terrain with its snow-covered mountains. It is known for its apple orchids and visitors can also take a walk through them. It also houses some Buddhist monasteries or gompas.


The Orchid Research and Development Station

It is located at Tippi and where tourists can also visit two other Orchid conservation sanctuaries which are situated at Sessa and Dirang.


Craft Centre & Ethnographic Museum

Tourists can visit the Craft Centre that produces finest and colourful 'dragon' designs carpets. Apart from this, Buddhist Tangkas (wall hangings) and masks can also be seen here. Another worth visiting spot is the Ethnographic Museum.


Buddhist Monasteries

There are several Buddhist Monasteries known as ?Gompas?, which reflect a strong influence of Tibetan as well as Buddhist cultures.


Tawang Town

Located north of Bomdila, Tawang is a small town. A journey from Bomdila to Tawang takes the visitors through some beautiful valleys of Dirang and famous Sela Pass. Situated at an altitude of over 3,400 m above sea level, Tawang is known for its 400-year-old Buddhist monastery.


Festivals in Bomdila

Losar (February): People of Bomdila, Monpas, offer prayers on this day and hoist religious flags. The occasion continues with lighting butter lamps and reading Buddhist scriptures. It is considered an important festival in Bomdila.

Nechidow Festival (January): It is the major festival of the Aka tribe; celebrated for four days. Various rituals are performed alongwith prayers during this festival. Traditional songs and dances are the main attractions.


Excursions

Bomdila is situated 100 km west of Bhalukpong, in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Tezpur is around 160 km from Bomdila, which is well-linked to Guwahati and several other cities of India via Guwahati in Assam.

Best Time to Visit

The most ideal time to visit Bomdila is from March to October. Loser Festival in March has tourists visiting from all around the world. Summer from April to June has a pleasant climate to visit all the tourist attractions. Monsoons from July to September should be avoided.


How to Reach

By Air: Tezpur (160 km) in Assam is the nearest airport.

By Rail: Nearest railway stations are at Tezpur (160 km) and at Rangapara.

By Road: Regular bus services link Bomdila with Tawang and Tezpur.
