During the festival of Teej, Rahasthani women get dressed in their traditional attires. Both young and married women partake in this festival where they perform various rituals and pray to Goddess Parvati for well being of their husbands or future husbands. ?The sights of women performing local folk dance and singing Rajasthani songs catch the fancy of everyone witnessing the festivities of Teej. Women observe fast during the festival for the long life of their husbands while men pray for good rain and crop.
Teej Mata temple sees the biggest celebrations during this festival where the idol of Teej Mata is decorated with beautiful attire and ornaments. Ladies please the deity by singing devotional songs and enjoys swings adorned with strings of marigold and spring flowers. Grand fairs are set up and beautiful processions are taken out from Tripolia gate of this Pink City Jaipur.
History
The history behind this grand festival is that it was the day when Goddess Parvati met Lord Shiva after a long separation. The devotees believe that whoever worships Parvati on this festival is blessed with a happy married life.
