Introduction

The birth place of Sri Satya Sai Baba, Puttaparthi is a highly revered pilgrimage centre of Hindus. It is a small village where Sri Satya Sai Baba was born. Sai Baba preached the principles of truth, peace, righteousness, love and non-violence. He is believed to be the incarnation of Sai Baba, the holy saint from Shirdi. Devotees from all over the world come here to take the blessings of Sai Baba.

This village has deep cultural and religious roots. The Chitravathi River in the village adds more charm to it. The major attraction of Puttaparthi is Prasanthi Nilayam, an ashram of Satya Sai Baba which was established in 1950. The most striking feature of the ashram is the museum which showcases wonderful models of different types of temple structures such as the Golden Temple of Amritsar and the Mecca mosque. Here you can also see the life history of the saint through pictures, starting from his birth to the time when he attained enlightenment. The museum also displays the principles of the major religions in the form of quotations. The museum also houses planetarium, school, hospital, recreation centre, guest houses, canteens, shops, library, and assembly hall.

Some of the other attractions:

  • Sathyabhama Temple (dedicated to the consort of Lord Krishna)
  • Sri Raju Kalyana Mandapam (used for marriages in the village)
  • Anjaneya Swamy (Hanuman) Temple
